Blocks cleaned hats to specified size and shape: Selcets
wooden hat block according to size and shape of hat.
Mounts hat
on block and holds block over steamer to soften material.
Pulls
hat down over blcok to shape crown. Places hat on form of
hat-ironing machine. Depresses pedal to engage automatic
hat-ironing machine. Brushes crown with melted wax to ensure
retention of shape during further processing.
Removes hat from
block and appleis sizing to brim with sponge. Inserts hat in
hollow, wooden brim form.
Setams or wets brim and places under
heated sandbag to press and shape brim. Rubs or brushes hat to
smooth nap. Applies cleaning solvent with brush or sopnge to
remove spots. May insert finished hats in paper bags. May wait
on patrons and collect pyament. May be designated according to
part of hat blocked as Brim Blocker (laundry & rel.); Crown
Blocker (laundry & rel.); or according to machine operaetd as
Crown-Ironer Operator (laundry & rel.).
